Sunday Best!

While I welcome summer fashion with open (gradual tanner induced) arms, as my fellow Irish fashion savvy folks can confirm, the use of such seasonal selections can often be short lived in the Emerald Isle. Our climate doesn’t allow for the most tropical of tailoring, and we must always co-ordinate any summer ensemble with a corresponding umbrella!

With this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that we often yearn for the introduction of AW collections to the high street. From late July onwards, weary sale worshippers slowly start to consider the purchase of cosy knits and classic coats, all with the expectation of some fabulous winter looks. The early stages of such collections can
carry some fabulously versatile multi-season pieces, and there are always a sublime selection of lightweight jackets on offer to tantalise our transitional tastebuds!

I was delighted to pick up such a piece from Benetton’s AW 14 menswear collection. It’s subtle navy hue and textured print means it will work just as fabulously in summer with a breton stripe tee and chinos as it will in winter over a mustard knit, black skinnies and tan brogues, while the lightweight stretchy fabric offers a casual feel to its otherwise dapper demeanour- perfect for those of you that may have reservations about embracing your inner gent!

For this look, I decided to keep my ensemble minimal, allowing my new favourite blazer to shine through. I teamed it with a crisp white shirt and pop blue chinos, also from Benetton, and finished the look with my trusty Zara brogues.

I of course had a lot of fun accessorising the blazer, and opted for a simple navy satin pocketsquare and pearl lapel pin- as borrowed from my sister’s jewellery box. Remember gentlemen, when it comes to quirky accessories and dapper details, don’t be afraid to get creative!

I felt amazing in this particular look, and it reminded me that a simple, well cut blazer with some casual styling really is a fail safe menswear model to follow. So guys, get thee to Benetton fast! At €145, the cost per wear of this limitless piece really makes it a sartorial steal.
