Tux Talk

With the impending onset of festive functions to attend, it’s important to have some sassy wardrobe staples to hand for every eventuality. One of these is, of course, a classic black blazer. However, given that Christmas calls for a little more glamour than usual, why not crack out the top half of your tuxedo to add some regal charm to your party look?

I recently acquired this tuxedo blazer from Benetton, and at €145, I’m determined to garner a valuable ratio of price per wear! While tuxedos always require the classic, and rather restrictive aesthetic of dress shirt, bow tie and dress pants, its surprisingly easy to inject some sass into your jacket with the addiction of some chicy accents.

This feather print shirt from River Island (€40) is the perfect monochrome mate for any tuxedo blazer, and will work fabulously as a stand alone piece should you need to de-robe on the dance floor!

My trusty leather pants offer a welcome texture clash against the satin lapel of my jacket, while patent brogue boots add a utilitarian feel to my otherwise dapper demeanour.

The accessory possibilities are endless with this particular look, and this River Island glitter thread bow tie (€13) adds some sassy sparkle to proceedings.

As we know I’m all about the thrift (especially when I’ve just dropped €145!), so I found a dual purpose in my Benetton shoe clips (available in their ladieswear section for €14.95) and attached one to my collar- the jewels work fabulously with my ‘pocket square’- which is actually an organza gift bag folded up!

Finally, for full on festive fabulosity, why not go the whole glamour hog and drape a faux fur stole over your shoulders alongside your favourite black coat for some Doctor Zhivago realness- you’ll certainly turn heads!
